About Angel Food Ministries

Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization

dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities

throughout the United States. The program began in 1994 with 34 families in

Monroe, Georgia  (between Atlanta and Athens), and has grown to serve

in February 2006 over 340,000 families in 32 states. God has surely blessed

this ministry. Stay with us as we continue to grow in ministry across the country.

Blessings by the box

Angel Food's groceries are sold in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized

box at $30 per unit. Each month's menu is different than the previous month and

consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of

approximately $50. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in

various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has

resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78.

Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one

week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same

high quality one would purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand

items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no

day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.

Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. Many

participants in this bonus program appreciate the expanded choices.

Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units an individual can purchase,

and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants

must adhere. Angel Food Ministries, like most all other retail grocery stores, also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp

Voucher system.

How the Program works

Food sales and distribution are handled by church host sites. Orders and

payments are collected by the host sites during the first part of each month.

Orders must be paid for in advance by cash, money orders, checks or

Food Stamps (EBT).  These orders are then turned in to the Angel Food

main office in Monroe, Georgia, on a predetermined date. Several days

later, in the same month, the host site either picks up the food from

Angel Food's 160,000 square feet warehouse to fill the orders on Distribution

Day or, because this ministry is growing nationwide, food is delivered to

the host site by a pre-arranged delivery mode.

Distribution Day

Distribution Day is always on Saturday.  The pick-up time for your order

will be 9:00am - 11:30am at Howard Christian Church (367 Walnut Street,

Howard, PA 16841).  Please bring your receipt or proper ID to pick up your

order.  A medium sized to large box is needed for food items, but most people

find that a medium sized laundry basket works best.  We have no way to store

any of this food, so please make sure you or someone you know is picking up

this food on Distribution Day.  If you run into any problems, please call us at

814-625-2204 or 814-625-2764.  Any order not picked up by 10:30am,

may be donated to a charity or given to a family in need.

Policy on “Forgotten Boxes”

We understand how things can happen, family emergencies, changing

work schedules, miscommunication with the person that was supposed to

pick up your Angel Food order, or, you just plain forgot!  In any case,

we find it necessary to publish a policy.

1.We cannot take responsibility for the condition of the food that is left after

pick up time has expired.  Much of the food is frozen and may thaw or spoil.

      2. If we cannot reach you, your food may have to be donated to a charity or

given to a family in need.  We CANNOT refund your money.

      3. If you arrive and find that the food has been donated, please keep your

receipt as a donation to charity for tax purposes.

      4. Unless you have made prior arrangements, please do not assume that we

will hold your order – let us know as soon as you know that there is

          a problem.

Policy on Personal Checks

We know that money can be tight at times. To protect us from having to pay for

boxes ordered because of a customer's insufficient funds, we have to put the

following policy in place.

     1. If a check is returned for insufficient funds, the church will contact the

person for the money needed to cover the cost of what was ordered.

     2. The money due will need to be paid before food is received.

     3. Future orders will be limited to cash, money orders, cashier's check or

Food Stamps (EBT) only.  No personal checks will be accepted from

        that point on.

The Benefit

Savings is the primary benefit for this ministry.  You will save on grocery bills

by purchasing a unit for only $30.00.  And with no limit to the number of units

you can purchase, you may be able to stock up for the whole month.  You will

also have a chance to meet new people and interact with a church that truly

cares about its community!

Angel Food Ministries reserves the right to substitute any of the items due to availability, cost and quality.

The Church

Howard Christian Church is the host site for this area. If you are interested

in  purchasing, volunteering, or simply want to know more, you may contact
